Roombas are the granddaddy of robotic vacuums. For almost 20 years, iRobot has been making Roombas designed to effortlessly clean your home. But what about one of iRobot’s most popular vacuums, the Roomba 675? Is it a good vacuum? Is it worth the price?
We’re going to review the Roomba 675 for you today. Here’s the summary – the Roomba 675 is quite possibly the best budget robot on the market today. It comes with plenty of bells and whistles, has an attractive price tag, and can clean your entire home.
The Roomba 675 has the cleaning power of more expensive models without the expensive price of those models. It has WiFi connectivity, a side brush, and a very good HEPA filter. We’re going to go over the best features of the 675 model and also compare this vacuum to other robotic vacuums. Keep reading for important information on the Roomba 675 vacuum.
7 Best Features of a Roomba 675
The Roomba 675 comes equipped with many good features, even though it’s a lower-end robotic vacuum. Some of those features are:
- HEPA Filter
- Spinning Brush
- Battery Size
- WiFi Connectivity
- 3 Stage Cleaning System
- Dirt Detect Technology
- Smart Navigation
1. HEPA Filter
The Roomba 675 comes with an Aerovac HEPA-style filter. This is an important feature, as the filter will not only trap dust and dirt but also get rid of bad odors and harmful allergens.
The AeroVac HEPA-style filter will work very well on odors and allergens that plague seasonal allergy sufferers. It will get up to 95% of allergens in your home.
However, if you have severe allergies, you’re going to want to switch to the AeroForce filtration system on the Roomba 890 or 960. Those are true HEPA filters that will remove up to 99% of the allergens in your home.
2. Spinning Brush
Dual Multi-Surface brushes grab dust, dirt, and large debris. The unit comes equipped with an auto-adjust cleaning head that automatically adapts its height to clean both carpets and hard floors.
The original 675 uses a bristle style brush roll. This is an excellent cleaning tool but is more prone to getting long hair tangled in the bristles. If you have long-haired dogs, you may be happier with a Roomba 980, which has a rubber brush roll.
This type of bristle brushroll is very good at picking up hair that gets tangled into the fiber of your carpet. The hard bristles can really dig down deep into carpeting. It’s also very good, as are the most robotic vacuums, with a hard floor.
The Roomba also comes with a side cleaning brush. This side brush allows the Roomba to sweep the dirt and dust from the wall edges and corners into the suction path of the vacuum.
3. Battery Size
The Roomba 675 has a battery size of 1800 mAh. The mAh capacity rating refers to the storage capacity for a particular battery. A battery with a capacity of 1800 mAh will deliver a current of 1800 mAh for around one hour. Higher mAh batteries mean longer runtime.
The 675 will clean for about an hour without stopping. Unless you have a lot of debris to pick up, or unless you have a large apartment or home, the runtime should be sufficient for your cleaning needs.
Once the battery runs down, the 675 will return to the docking station to recharge. It takes about 2-3 hours to recharge the battery.
4. WiFi Connectivity
The 675 supports 2.46 GHz WiFi for your smartphones and devices. It works with other home automation platforms, like Alexa and Google Home, so that means it has voice control. All you have to do is tell Alexa or Google to clean your home and the Roomba 675 jumps to action.
You have to download the iRobot Home app to your smartphone or device. For this, you will need to know or have the following:
- Your WiFi Network Name
- Your WiFi Network Password
- Please note that the Roomba can not connect to 5GHz WiFi
- Home Base is Plugged In
- The robot is on the Home Base
It can also be programmed via the smartphone or device app to clean at your convenience. As well, the scheduling function can be performed using the manual buttons on the unit itself.
The app allows you to start or stop cleaning, schedule future cleanings, and see your cleaning history.
5. 3 Stage Cleaning System
In conjunction with the brushing technology, the Roomba has a 3 stage cleaning system, allowing you to pick up even more dirt, debris, and dust.
The system uses dual brushes and a strong suction system to agitate, loosen, lift and suck the dirt and debris into the dustbin. The 675 has a motor that delivers 600 Pa. A power amplifier (PA) is defined by the ratio between the power supplied to the vacuum and the power provided to the circuit by the source.
Any robotic vacuum under 500 Pa should have a brushroll, as it will do half the work in agitating dirt and debris from your floors. The Roomba 675 has both a brushroll and a Pa of 600 so it should be able to tackle almost anything you throw at it. It picks up anything from small particles to larger debris.
6. Dirt Detect Technology
Dirt Detect Technology is an excellent feature of the Roomba 675. Sensors on the unit will determine how much dirt and dust are accumulated in your home and the vacuum will work harder and longer on areas with more dirt and debris.
This means on more heavily traveled areas of your house, where dirt accumulates, the vacuum will work harder. It will take more time to clean those areas while spending less time on parts of your home that have less dirt.
This technology is important to a Roomba vacuum cleaner. The sensors are there to determine work load of the vacuum and ensuring that the vacuum works smarter instead of harder.
7. Smart Navigation
Smart navigation by Roomba means a full suite of sensors that navigate the robot under and around objects and furniture to help you fully clean your floors.
The Roomba 675 is low profile, at only 3.6” in height. It’s designed to clean under furniture, like couches, beds, and other hard to reach areas. It can also turn on a dime. The sensors on the 675 allow the unit to practice a “bump and continue” method of vacuuming. The vacuum will move along, lightly bump into obstacles, change its route, and continue cleaning.
The 675 uses the iAdapt 1.0 navigation. The vacuum will scan your entire floor area and map out the most efficient path to take when cleaning. In average sized apartments, this will not take up much extra time and your vacuuming could be done in as little as 40 minutes.
The Pros and Cons of a Roomba 675
There are many pros to the Roomba 675 and a few cons, as well. The pros are:
- Price
- Long Run Time
- Filtration
- Powerful Cleaning Performance
- Smart Connectivity
iRobot offered up the Roomba 675 as their budget priced vacuumed. At under $300, it is one of the most affordable Roombas on the market.
The long run time ensures that it can completely vacuum your floors in one cleaning setting, as long as you have an average sized apartment or home. Larger apartments or homes may need two cleanings.
The filtration is powerful, also picking up allergens and helps with the powerful cleaning performance offered by the 675.
Smart connectivity allows you to remotely schedule cleanings, start cleaning, or check your cleaning history. It’s a no-hassle method for controlling your vacuum cleaner.
As good as the 675 is, it does have some cons:
- No Virtual Wall
- Does Not Resume Cleaning after Recharging
While other Roombas like the 690 come equipped with a virtual wall, the 675 does not. This means if there is an area or room in your home you do not want to be vacuumed, the 675 has no way to navigate that.
Once it gets low on battery power, the 675 will go back to the home base to recharge. However, it does not resume cleaning after recharging. This should not be a major problem since one cleaning is often enough for the entire house.
How Does It Compare – Roomba 675 vs. Other Vacuums
How does the Roomba 675 stack up against other Roomba robotic vacuums?
Roomba 675 vs 690
The Roomba 690 is very similar to the Roomba 675. They both come in around the same price and are currently under $300 on Amazon. They have the same filter and suctioning power, as well as the same smart connectivity. However, the 690 comes with a virtual wall and the 675 does not. If you have an area or a room that should be off-limits to the vacuum, you may want to consider the 690 model.
Roomba 675 vs 677
The Roomba 677 is another vacuum that is very similar to the 675. They have much of the same features but the 677 has a virtual wall included, just like the 690 model. If you find you need a virtual wall, you can find the model on Amazon. It is generally more expensive than the 675 or the 690 models.
Roomba 675 vs 960
The Roomba 960 is an extremely good robotic vacuum. The price is almost double that of the 675 but it offers vSlam navigation, which allows the vacuum to actually map your home to more efficiently clean without bumping into obstacles. It also offers rubber brushes, which are better at not getting tangled with long hair, making it a good choice for pet owners. It has 5x the suctioning power of a 675. This is an awesome vacuum to get if you have pets and have the money to spend. You can find this on Amazon.
Roomba 675 vs e5
The Roomba e5 is a mid-level vacuum, often costing less than $300 but still more than the 675 model. It has all the features of a 675 but adds more suctioning power. It is ideal for homes with pets. You can get this model on Amazon.
Roomba makes some of the best robotic vacuums on the market today. Whatever your price range, there’s probably a Roomba for you.
Burning Questions
Is the Roomba 675 good for pet hair?
The Roomba 675 is not as good for pet hair as the Roomba 690 or e5, simply because the bristles on this vacuum do not handle long hair as well as the rubber brushes on the 690 or e5. However, it should be fine for short-haired pets.
Does Roomba 675 map your house?
The 675 model maps your home as it is cleaning but does not keep a history of that map, meaning it must rescan each time it cleans. It has sensors that allow it to navigate around and under obstacles and can safely clean an entire level of your home.
Does Roomba 675 automatically dock?
The Roomba 675 automatically docks at Home Base when it needs recharging.
Is there a warranty on this product?
The Roomba 675 has a one year warranty.
Do I have to have a smartphone or device to work on this vacuum?
You do not have to have a smartphone or device but it does make it easier. If you don’t have a smart device, you can simply manually push the large “Clean” button in the middle of the unit.
So, Is It Right For You?
The Roomba 675 is attractively priced and has very good suctioning power. This is not the machine for you if you have long-haired animals or need a room blocked off. Other than those items, this vacuum should please almost every user.
